Consumers who purchased certain IKEA chest of drawers models may be eligible to benefit from a class action settlement.
The Class is made up of anyone who, between Jan. 1, 2002, and June 28, 2016, purchased any of the following IKEA children’s chest of drawers models taller than 60 cm (23 1/2 inches) or adult chest of drawer models taller than 75 cm (29 1/2) inches that were recalled by IKEA Canada:

The plaintiffs filed their class action lawsuit after IKEA announced on June 28, 2016, that the chest of drawers models did not meet North American ASTM standards on free-standing stability.
Furniture retail giant IKEA has 50 locations throughout Canada.
Consumers have a few options for relief under the terms of the IKEA settlement.
Class Members may visit an IKEA Canada retail location or contact the IKEA Customer Support Centre at 1-800-661-9807 to receive a free chest of drawers anchoring kit.
Class Members may install the kits themselves or contact customer support for a one-time free in-home installation.
Consumers who purchased a covered chest of drawers manufactured between January 2002 and June 2016 and do not wish to secure them may return them to any IKEA for a full refund.
If the chest of drawers was manufactured before January 2002, the Class Member may be eligible for a partial store credit.
For all the above benefits, Class Members are limited to six chests of drawers each.
In addition to those benefits, Class Members may choose an optional pickup service to Quebec claimants who are unable to return the chest of drawers to an IKEA.
Class Members may call the IKEA Customer Support Centre at 1-888-444-5596 and leave a voicemail to receive this benefit. The Class Member must provide proof of purchase through a claim form.
IKEA retains the right to reject the pickup or other benefits if an inquiry determines the amount in the document was used to purchase items other than a chest of drawers.
Customers are limited to one pickup per residence and six chests of drawers per pickup.
After they are picked up, if the chests of drawers were manufactured between January 2002 and June 2016, the claimant will receive a refund card they can present at any IKEA in Canada for conversion to the original payment method.
A final hearing in the IKEA chest of drawers settlement will take place June 30, 2021.
The deadline to opt out of or object to the settlement is June 28, 2021.
The deadline to file a claim is July 28, 2021.
