Ford Fusion Transmission Class Action Lawsuit:

  • Who: Drivers have lodged a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company.
  • What: The drivers say a Ford Fusion transmission problem can cause sudden shaking, violent jerking, and difficulty stopping the vehicles.
  • Where: The plaintiffs seek to represent Ford Fusion owners nationwide.

A Ford Fusion transmission problem can allegedly cause sudden shaking, violent jerking, and difficulty stopping according to a new nationwide class action lawsuit.

The 841-page lawsuit was filed recently against Ford Motor Company in a Michigan federal court, CarComplaints reports.

In it, plaintiffs allege that Ford Fusion transmission problems cause unexpected shaking, violent jerking, bucking and kicking on acceleration, delayed acceleration, gears slipping, difficulty stopping the vehicle, and lack or loss of motive power.

The lawsuit alleges most of the problems come from Fusion 6F35 transmissions found in all automatic, non-hybrid Fusions from 2013 and later. The issue also allegedly affects many 2010-2012 Ford Fusions.

Ford Fusion Transmission Problems Pose a Dangerous Vehicle Safety Issue

The plaintiffs say motorist safety has been endangered due to the issues, and a Ford Fusion recall should have been issued a long time ago.

According to the lawsuit, Ford knew in 2009 the Fusion transmission problems existed but didn’t tell drivers about the alleged defects.

The affected drivers say they brought their cars to dealerships to fix the transmission problems, but there were no adequate solutions available.

Fiesta Owners May Experience Similar Ford Fusion Transmission Problems

Meanwhile, Ford drivers who had a 2011-2016 Ford Fiesta or a 2012-2016 Ford Focus may also lodge a class action lawsuit; they have experienced serious problems with their vehicles after getting the $1095 “Powershift” transmission or Dual Clutch upgrade, according to the law firm representing plaintiffs in the Fusion case.

In the Fiesta and Focus case, the transmission system that replaces a traditional automatic transmission was marketed to consumers as providing more efficient and fast shifting of gears, the firm says.

However, the Ford Focus and Fiesta vehicles equipped with the “Powershift” transmission or Dual Clutch are allegedly prone to problems that include transmission shuddering, slipping, jerking, loss of motive power, difficulty stopping, and other issues.

Ford was established in 1901 and has since expanded to become an internationally known household name that sells both commercial vehicles under the Ford brand, and the majority of luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand.

Over the years the automaker has faced backlash from consumers, with many lawsuits and class action lawsuits resulting from allegations regarding the manufacturer’s operations. These allegations have ranged from claims of malfunctioning brake systems to manual transmission defects, frozen door locks, and more.

I have a 2012 Ford Fusion SEL that has been having these exact issues with the transmission. How does one go about joining the class action lawsuit against Ford? Is there going to be a recall on them?

I have had more problems with my 2012 Ford FusIon SE than I can count. As a disabled veteran with a fixed income, I am going broke trying to keep this car running. Door handles, steering issues, transmission problems, electrical problems and axle problems have plagued my car. I get no response from the Ford complaint line. I can’t afford another car.

  4. Heather says:

How does one join the class action lawsuit against Ford? They never notified me of what they are calling Customer Satisfaction Programs that I had code 13N03 and 15N01 on my Fusion! My car never had any issues until recently which line up with what these two codes say the car will do. And of course, they are sporadic so never happens when at the shop, so codes cannot be pulled. They also told me at the Ford Motor Co when called that I had to have this fixed in 10yrs or 150k miles- well I was not notified and until just started having issues finding in my own research to no help of them or the dealership, that the issues line up with the 13N03 and 15N01!! Any information that can help me would be appreciated!

2010 Ford fusion hard downshifts and starting to slip. The fluid is always in the safe zone.

  6. Angela Morrison says:

2014 Ford Fusion needs to be included. I had major transmission work done at Crossroads Ford in Southern Pines shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Fortunately, the vehicle was still under manufacturer warranty, but my transmission went out again in May of 2023 forcing me to purchase a new car at a time when I could not afford to do so.

  7. Kelly W says:

My car jerked, the gears would sticks or click into place waaayy too late, and my god the breaks. I have a complaint that I left on carcomplaints years ago about these issues. I took it to ford to get looked at multiple times for the issues, especially the breaks because I had several close calls almost hitting people because the breaks weren’t working correctly. They told me nothing was wrong with the car.
Then on the highway someone cut in front of me and breaked hard, ran right into them, front of my hood went under the bed of their truck, and my car was totaled. My foot was on the floor trying to break. Just like so many other times before. Wasn’t as lucky that time.

I have a 2011 Ford Fusion with transmission problems and wont shift . It was only on occasion that it was not shifting or jerking when i would excellerate shifting delayed or shifting real hard but now its all the time

    1. Sandra Field says:

I just got my Ford2014 fusion back after 1 month from Ford. I complaint about the hard shifting and jerking going into 2nd. My warranty ended putting a new transmission at $8000. I had to pay parts and labor which was about $1.400.10 out of my pocket. How ever over 1500 2014 Ford Fusions have complained about the same reason. I called the corporate office and they just took message. I told them that this should of been a recall instead of Ford making thousands of $$$ on this issue. Of course no response. My husband paid cash when he bout me that car. Well husband passed away and I truly love my gift from him. After paying cash and truly taking car of my car. Ford still denies that it’s not a recall. I’m so angry.

  9. Maddyson Wooledge says:

My car jerks on acceleration, it vibrates and shakes.

  10. Anthony Previte says:

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion SE (85k mi) that experiences delayed and sometimes hard shifts from gear 2 to 3. This issue is worse when the engine is cold, but is always there to a degree. Transmission flush and adaptive table clearance has not resolved the issue.
